I did not know it at the time……the idea for this piece stems back to the mid 90’s as an arts student backpacking through Europe. I had immersed myself in the historical epicenter of Western art. Etruscan sculptures dating back to 300 BC planted a subconscious seed. I was captivated by the Etruscans’ elongated bronze cast figures. The tree has become a metaphor for my personal narrative. It has grown as I have. Shaped by life, uprooted by migration, fed by an openness in an ecosystem of creativity. As my art practice matured, I learned the tools and techniques to express this metaphor in the physical form
