The recurring themes in my work deal with human and environmental interconnectedness and the continual cycle of growth, transformation, decay and renewal. Visually, my work is influenced by figurative and botanical forms.
“Regeneration” celebrates a local community’s desire to reconnect with the land. It reflects the re-establishment of a place to source food, continuing the land’s role in the lives of prior and present inhabitants: from the Wurundjeri, to the dairy farmers, to the asylum inmates and staff and now the residents in Willsmere estate and surrounding suburbs.
The elongated stems represent emerging new growth. The colourful pods are the fruits of this growth and transformation. The figurative elements reflect the area’s inhabitants who have inhabited this land over the generations.
